GISBORNE
GARAGISTE WINE COMPANY
CHARDONNAY 2014
VITICULTURE
The fruit for this wine was sourced
from Simon Shanks vineyard in the naturally warm Wahirere region of Gisborne. In
the excellent 2014 vintage the Mendoza clone of Chardonnay in this block had a
balanced canopy and excellent fruit exposure which allowed the grapes to reach
optimal maturity.
HARVEST DETAILS
The grapes were hand harvested in pristine condition on the 18th
March, showing ripe varietal characters with excellent acidity.

WINEMAKING
NOTES
The grapes were gently pressed as
whole bunches with the resulting free run juice run straight to French oak
barriques comprising 15% new oak. This juice was allowed to undergo
fermentation utilising the native yeast species indigenous to the vineyard.
28% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. The blend remained in barrel with regular
battonage for ten months prior to
bottling.
TASTING
NOTES
Light yellow in colour this
wine shows aromas of grapefruit and
yellow peach and subtle toasty oak . The
palate has a rich texture with a ripe fruit core, integrated charry oak and
creamy malolactic characters intermingled with savoury barrel ferment characters. The balanced acidity flows through the palate
creating an elegant style with a long finish.
