GISBORNE GARAGISTE WINE COMPANY SYRAH 2014
VITICULTURE
The fruit for this wine was sourced from a premium block in
the Patutahi region of Gisborne. The Syrah vines in this block are cordon
pruned which naturally restricts the crop level giving a balanced canopy
and excellent fruit exposure.
HARVEST DETAILS
The grapes were hand harvested in excellent condition on the
2nd April with ripe varietal characters.

WINEMAKING NOTES
Following harvest the grapes were destemmed to an open top
fermenter. They were then fermented in the traditional manner using
punch down to gently extract colour and tannin with a maceration period of 14 days on skins. Following draining and
pressing the wine was aged for 18 months
in barrel with regular racking. Due to the extended maturation period the wine only required light fining and filtration before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
This aromatic Syrah shows dark plum, floral and spice notes enhanced with savoury mocha oak characters.
The palate is medium -bodied with bright, berry fruit, velvety tannins and a long finish.
