GISBORNE GARAGISTE WINE COMPANY   GEWURZTRAMINER 2014
VITICULTURE

This wine was made using hand  picked  grapes from a premium block in the Patutahi region of Gisborne. This block has a great track record of producing award winning wines  and the low crop level and open canopy  ensured  full expression of varietal character.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Following harvest the grapes were transported to the winery where they were cool-stored for 24 hours before gently crushing to the press for overnight skin contact. Gentle pressing then  released high  quality free run juice rich in flavour. After cold settling overnight the  juice was cool fermented in a stainless steel tank with a selected yeast strain retaining the aromatic qualities of the grapes . The wine was stop fermented  when the balance of residual sugar , acidity and fruit expression was optimal. It then was fined, filtered and bottled early preserving the fruit characters.

TASTING NOTES

Light yellow gold in colour this wine shows typical Gewurztraminer varietal characters with the nose showing an intense mix of  lychee, rose petal and spice notes. The palate is  medium  dry and richly  textured, with pink grapefruit and rose petal flavours building to the long finish.
